We need a new competetive gametype.

Now look at the competitive gaming scene, go I'll wait. Back? Good know as you may have noticed that ninety percent of professional tournaments are either shooters or DOTA'ish games if not DOTA itself. But i cant help shake the feeling that although their is always a measure of luck involved here. I don't deny it, these champions posses incredible skills and have put months of training in there craft, but I've noticed that Battlefield, Call of Duty and even Halo to some measure really rely on what weapon you have (in Call of duty's case it's all in the perks.) and who spots who first. As for Heroes of Newerth, Bloodline Champoins and DOTA, hero combos and teamwork dictate the victor. World of Warcraft's player versus player system requires a really good understanding of each class's strengths, weaknesses and a good control on your character , but again you cant shake the feeling of it relies on what gear and specialization the player posses.Yes, Fighting games rely on skill but for the purpose of this article let's pretend they don't exist.
We need an entirely new competitive game type that should rely on pure player skill, and the best way to go if we want to deviate from shooters would be a melee combat system.
One cant deny the idea has merit to it, but once you start to think about this it dawns on you how long its been since we've had a really in depth combat system. I'm not talking God of War deep, I'm talking Ninja Gaiden deep, and since multiplayer has been confirmed for the third entry of the franchise we may just get a new entry Mayor League Gaming.
